Here Goes Nothing!

I can’t believe I’m doing this…

Never did I think I would write a blog. Let me start this off by saying I am not a writer, in fact my background is in Business and Finance, so pretty much the exact opposite of a writer. I’m also doing this in such a delusional state of exhaustion, so please disregard any and all typos and grammatical errors.

About a month ago, on a night where my four-month-old decided not to sleep, I randomly googled “how to start a blog”. I was sick of playing Candy Crush and refreshing my Facebook feed in the wee hours of the night. I thought maybe I could channel my sleepless nights into something more cathartic and (hopefully) useful to others. A lot of my Facebook friends are new moms so I figured my stories might resonate with them and give them something to read when they are up with a crying or hungry baby. I would also love to hear from anyone who has gone through the same things and may have some tricks or words of encouragement to share.

In case you aren’t familiar with my current situation let me fill you in…

My husband Alex and I welcomed our first baby, Katie, during the crazy blizzard in January 2015. Twenty short months later, in September 2016 we welcomed our son Jake. I feel so incredibly lucky and blessed to have these two little ones in my life but OH MY GOD it is exhausting. Katie was a very tough baby who hated sleep for the first 10 months of her life, so I anticipated the same for baby number two. I was pleasantly surprised when Jake was born and was sleeping 5 to 6 hour stretches in the first two months. Little did I know that would only last for a short while. Over the last few months he has been up CONSTANTLY. I feel like I see every hour on the clock. Of course now I’m doing the typical mom thing and wondering if it’s something I’m eating that is upsetting him, or if I have created this monster by nursing him to sleep EVERY TIME he wakes up?!! At 3 months I tried to get him into his crib (disclaimer – his sleep apparatus of choice had been the rock n play) and after multiple nights of A LOT of crying and him waking up his sister, I gave up. I tried again at 4 months. The first few nights were ROUGH. It got better by the 4th night so I was feeling optimistic… and that’s when the ‘you know what’ hit the fan… I GOT THE FLU.

**The above was written over a month ago… this crazy mom life has not gotten any easier and the flu really set us back. Let’s just say two young kids on Tamiflu and a mom who feels like death while her husband is away for work, is NOT a good combination. Thankfully in the last couple of weeks things have taken a turn for the better… well, until last night. More to come on that in my next post. In the meantime, please let me know if reading this stuff interests you. If there is anything in particular you would like me to write about that pertains to pregnancy, labor, infancy, toddler stages, or being a mom of two and trying to juggle that all (while working and being a wife), please let me know! Over the past few years I’ve found that I really enjoy hearing others stories because knowing you can relate to people and you aren’t going through this crazy rollercoaster alone is reassuring. I look forward to hearing from you guys!!
